We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve partnered with Hive, a leader in advanced eco-tech solutions designed to reduce energy bills and emissions. Together, we aim to create smarter, greener, and more cost-effective homes for everyone.

As part of this collaboration, Hive, a subsidiary of Centrica, will promote our offerings – including Sunsave Plus, the UK’s first subscription service – to its customer base.

Households that sign up will get a free Hive Hub and Smart Bridge alongside their Sunsave Plus solar & battery system, as well as a free two-year Hive Plus subscription. This will all help our customers make the most of their solar installation.

You’ll also be able to sign up for the British Gas Electric Driver tariff with Hive Solar Saver, an exclusive add-on.

This provides you with an off-peak rate of 7.9p per kWh from 12am to 5am, allowing you to fill your battery with cheap electricity, then use it for the rest of the day – and with Hive Solar Saver, you’ll get up to 25% off the cost of any electricity you use outside of off-peak times.*

You’ll be able to help cut your electricity bills and shrink your carbon footprint all at the same time, thanks to this generous tariff and Hive’s pioneering technology.

More about the partnership

Through our partnership with Sunsave and the launch of our new solar subscription, we’re able to break down the financial barriers that many face with solar and battery ownership.

“Paired with our market leading Hive app, our customers will have more control of their energy usage and be able to see easily what they are generating and storing while saving money and cutting carbon in the process. This is all part of our ambition to energise a greener, fairer future.”

Ben Graves, Co-Founder of Sunsave, added: “Our mission has always been to make solar power accessible to all, and by reducing the financial barriers our solar subscription Sunsave Plus has already helped many to go green. FAQs

How does Hive Solar Saver work?

Hive Solar Saver provides up to 25% off any British Gas electricity tariff for 12 months.

This offer is available exclusively to Hive Solar and/or battery customers. The 25% discount doesn't apply to your standing charge; it only affects your electricity unit rate.

If you're on a time of use tariff, only your peak rate will benefit from the 25% discount.

See Hive’s website for the full terms and conditions.

How much can you save with Hive Solar Saver?

You can cut your peak rate electricity by 25% with Hive Solar Saver, which could mean making significant savings.

This discount would cut the price of electricity for homes on the January 2025 price cap from 24.86p per kWh to 18.65p per kWh, on average.

And since you'll also be signed up to British Gas Electric Driver, if you charge your battery with grid electricity during the off-peak period of 12am to 5am, you can reduce your bills even further.

How long does Hive Solar Saver last?

You can use Hive Solar Saver for 12 months from the point you sign up.

After that point, you'll no longer have access to a 25% discount on peak-rate electricity, but you will still be able to use the British Gas Electric Driver import tariff.

This tariff comes with one of the best off-peak rates in the UK, allowing you to save hundreds of pounds per year.
